2024 Awards
We are very excited to announce that following a successful inaugural Recognition Hawick Awards in 2023, we will be re-running our awards in November 2024. In our bid to take our time to grow, we will again only have 5 awards this year, despite us knowing that we could easily recognise hundreds of people/groups/events in our town! These awards will once again be categorised similarly to the four years of ‘Vision 2014’ and will recognise individuals, groups and businesses for both their succcesses and their contributions to the town. Once the nomination period closes on 25th August, winners will be selected by a panel of judges who are respected townsfolk and representative of all categories. Further announcements on the judging and the awards night itself will be available across our social media channels and in The Hawick Paper.
NOMINATIONS WERE OPEN FROM 5TH JULY TO 25TH AUGUST 2024.
JUDGING IS NOW UNDERWAY!
THE FINALISTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE IN SEPTEMBER!
The other four award categories will be as follows:
The Industry Award will recognise the outstanding achievements of local businesses that have made significant positive contributions to the town of Hawick. This award honours the dedication, innovation, and impact of a business that not only excels in its field but also supports the community. The 2023 winner of this award was Judith Hope-Wilson of the Pavilion Cafe in Wilton Lodge Park.
The Sports Award aims to recognise the accomplishments of local individuals and groups in the world of sports. This award celebrates those who have achieved notable success or have made meaningful contributions to the town of Hawick through sports. Whether through exceptional athletic performance, inspiring teamwork, or fostering community spirit, these sports enthusiasts enhance the town’s vibrant sporting culture. The winner of the award in 2023 was Julie Forrest for all her success in bowls and the impact that her success has had within the local community.
The Arts & Culture Award will recognise the success of local groups and individuals who have achieved success or positively contributed to the town in the arts & culture area. From group performances or individual volunteers in this area, this award celebrates the vast amount of work that goes into arts and culture in the town. In 2023, this award was won by Debbie Lyons for her work as the group leader of Act1 Youth, a youth theatre group which puts on shows for the local community each year.
The Heritage Award recognises the dedication and achievements of local individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Hawick. This award celebrates those who work tirelessly to protect the town’s history and cultural narratives. The efforts of these poeple and groups contribute to ensuring that the legacy of Hawick is honoured and maintained for future generations. Cath Elliott-Walker won this award in 2023 for her dedicated work towards the running of Hawick Reivers Festival.
